Rope inspection at BijRinus

Service — Rope inspection

Rope & hawser inspection

Visual inspection of Dyneema® and HMPE lines, based on manufacturer guidelines and practical experience.

We offer visual inspections for synthetic lines such as Dyneema® and HMPE, used for towing and mooring. These high-performance lines require careful and expert assessment to remain safe and reliable in use. Our inspections are carried out in line with the guidelines and requirements manufacturers set for the lines they supply.

What we look for

  • Internal and external wear
  • Cut damage and impact
  • Bend fatigue at rollers, fairleads and winches
  • Twist, torsion and deformation
  • UV, heat and chemical damage
  • Contamination and fibre dust in the core

Every inspection is recorded in a clear report, including location markers, photos and a recommended GO / NO-GO assessment following the fail-safe principle.

Testing rope on the tensile bench

If there is doubt about the remaining strength, it is possible to have a section of the line additionally tested on our tensile bench, as shown above. This gives you, in addition to a visual assessment, an objective, measurable picture of the remaining capacity.

Why a visual inspection can’t be replaced by a guess

Damage to a synthetic line is not always visible from the outside. Internal wear from repeated loading, or contamination that has worked its way between the fibres, can significantly reduce strength without this being immediately obvious to the naked eye. A structured inspection, carried out according to the manufacturer’s guidelines, therefore gives a more reliable picture than a visual check based on personal judgement.

With a fixed inspection frequency, you avoid a line unexpectedly having to be rejected at the exact moment you need it — while at the same time building up a record demonstrating that the equipment has been maintained according to the rules. Does replacement turn out to be necessary? We supply new and used Dyneema® lines from stock, and can splice them on site immediately.
