Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions we get most often — about rope and Dyneema, fenders, inspection, splicing, rental and more.
General
On ordering, stock and delivery
Yes, BijRinus delivers worldwide. Orders are shipped from Harlingen to customers in merchant shipping, inland shipping, fishing and sailing, both in the Netherlands and abroad.
Yes. Alongside new items, BijRinus also buys and sells used Dyneema, rope and maritime overstock as part of its bulk-trading business.
Yes, a quote can be requested via the website, phone or WhatsApp sales groups — a shop visit isn’t necessary.
Because bulk trading is part of the business, the physical shop is often too small for the full range. The complete, near-endless range can be browsed via the outlet.
Rope & Dyneema
Material, sizes and specifications
Dyneema is considerably lighter than steel wire rope at the same breaking strength, floats on water, is corrosion-resistant and easier to splice. Steel wire rope is generally cheaper and more resistant to chafing over sharp edges.
Yes, particularly in diameters from 18 to 44 mm. The cables are tested and, where necessary, re-spliced before being offered for sale again.
Yes, splicing can be done both in the shop in Harlingen and on-site at the vessel.
This depends on the type of vessel and application. Take a look at our guide on measuring rope, or get in touch — we’re happy to help.
Fenders
Sizing and rental
This depends on the vessel’s length, displacement and application. BijRinus advises on the right fender size and type based on the vessel’s details.
Yes, Yokohama fenders are also available for rent for temporary applications, delivered complete with lines and ready for immediate use.
Splicing & inspection
On-site, worldwide
Often within a few days of the request, and sometimes even the same day for urgent jobs. Our splicers travel worldwide with their own tools.
Among other things: internal and external wear, cut damage, flex fatigue, torsion, UV and heat damage, and contamination in the core. If in doubt, the line can also be tensile-tested.
Life jackets
Inspection interval and rate
For commercial vessels, annual inspection is recommended; for recreational craft, every 2 years.
For the inspection of a standard 150N or 275N life jacket, we charge €20 excl. VAT. Replaced parts are invoiced afterwards based on actual cost.
Rental & buyback
Temporary equipment or surplus stock
Yes, BijRinus rents out, among other things, Dyneema mooring lines, Yokohama fenders, certified life jackets, marker lines and marker buoys for temporary projects.
Yes, BijRinus makes offers on complete warehouses, refits and individual lots of rope, Dyneema, deck equipment and more. Payment is always made upfront and transport is arranged.
